Michael Woodard Photography
About the Photographer
I am a landscape, nature, and portrait photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. My journey into photography started as a teenager, but was limited to my spare time as I pursued a career in information technology and business. After a successful business career, I now pursue my love of photography full-time.
Photography is not only my profession, but a calling and the thing that will likely drive me crazy someday. I don’t just photograph subjects; I photograph the way light reveals them to me, and the way they make me feel. Admittedly, that may be a bit of a strange concept, but it’s the best way to describe my approach to the craft. I wrestle with every image I shoot. I assume perfection is possible and I want to bring it out in every picture. If that’s all you ever know about me, it’s safe to say you know me well!
About My Craft
Cameras and software are but tools of the craft. That said, I use full-frame Nikon cameras and a wide range of lenses and filters. My favorite combination is the Nikon D750 with a F2.8 24-70mm lens; it’s my workhorse! For processing digital files, I use Capture One and On1 solutions. As a photographer, I believe in capturing moments in a manner that reduces the need for making adjustments later to the digital image.
I consider myself a simple person who loves making photographs and spending time with my wife and children. When I’m not taking photographs, you can often find me working in my flower gardens or woodcarving in my studio. I have a passion for sharing and teaching. There are few things in life more gratifying than seeing those around you grow and achieve their goals.
My photographs have received awards from a number of organizations, including MN State Fair Fine Arts, EarthShots.org, Capture Minnesota, and Minnesota Exposure.
